Pink Slamminade #100

What's the story behind your derby name?
When I started roller derby I was working as a bartender. I love strawberries and wanted "Strawberry Smackquiri" but unfortunately it was already taken on TwoEvils. Pink Slamminade seemed like a decent compromise and an excuse to wear my favourite colour all the time.

What's the story behind your derby number?
I wear number 100 for 100%. It reminds me to give it my all (you can do anything for two minutes!) and not to be so hard on myself - your best is all you can do and if you've done that you shouldn't beat yourself up.

When did you join Renegade Derby Dames?
Spring 2011

Had you ever played roller derby before joining RDD?
I did my Fresh Meat training with ToRD (Toronto Roller Derby). After breaking two bones at a training camp, I joined RDD so I could practice for my minimums test and forgot to leave ;)

What (if any) skating experience did you have before joining RDD?
Being a danger to myself and my community on rollerblades. Seriously I'm really bad at rollerblades.

What's the best thing about being a derby girl?
The feeling you get after escaping a vicious pack of blockers, calling off the jam on one foot just in time, finally finding your sport, and the community.

What is your most memorable derby moment?
Getting MVP during my first Striking Vikings game.

What is your derby goal/dream?
To jam in a WFTDA tournament.

Who is your favourite skater/derby idol?
Francey Pants for sure. I met her at a training camp when I had just started skating and she was just awe-inspiring. I got to see her skate at World Cup and even got to be trained by her at a camp in Barrie. She's so graceful and powerful and a true athlete.
