What’s the story behind your derby name/derby number? My profession outside of derby as an Art Framer/Conservator is often “slow” detailed hands on work, so it was important to me to choose a derby name that incorporated a part of me that represented my aspirations to become “fast” detailed and skilled on skates. Not to mention that there’s always a little “hell” in Michelle’s...haha! My derby number is the last two digits of my birth year 1976.

When did you join Roller Derby/Renegade Derby Dames? I joined RDD in 2018. I started roller derby in my early 40’s as a way to get exercise, become braver, meet new people and keep my mind and body strong. I also started roller derby thinking that I’d like to start a league in my hometown of Georgina, which I did in 2019! I skate as Veronica disLodge #26 for GRDL.

What’s the best thing about roller derby? The best thing about roller derby is EVERYTHING about it! It is both challenging and rewarding in so many ways. But it’s the people that make roller derby the best thing ever. I am so very grateful for the friendships and support found within the roller derby community.

What is your derby goal/dream? to keep learning and doing ‘the things’ and share as many moments as possible with some of the finest, super awesome friendly badass peeps on the planet.

Favourite derby moment?I’ve had so many great derby moments, ah! Every moment in life is ours to enjoy and to “own”, so I take every opportunity I can to be present, be in the moment and be the best version of myself one practice at a time. Those are the best moments ever, derby taught me that.
